How does this work?
We have a blog built with sample pictures and text. You can customize it (replacing the pictures and text with your own) and we will host the site for you OR we will help you put in the main content (text and pictures) and then move it to another place online (aka “Host” or “Server”).
I found the domain name I wanted but it’s $6,000!! What do I do now?
Don’t pay over $50 for a domain name please! See question below.
I can’t get the domain name that I want for my blog. Now what?
Some people think that if “ConniesKitchen.com” isn’t available, they should just get “ConniesKitchen.net”. If you are just sharing with friends and co-workers, that’s fine. But if you have a restaurant named “Connie’s Kitchen” you should ALWAYS have the .com. It’s really the default web address extension.
If you’re a bit of a trailblazer you might try something wild like .camp, .guru, .fun or whatever else is out there!
If you already have a business and don’t want to change the name you could make your tagline a url. Instead of “ConniesKitchen.com” , you could try “NashvillesBestChickenbyConnie.com”. Then on your blog list your name first and the tagline second ( Connie’s Kitchen |Nashville’s Best Chicken).
Also, don’t buy your domain for a 5 year period, just start a subscription and put it in auto renew. There’s no benefit to paying early for that 5th year!
Why do I have to get my domain name in a separate payment system?
You will always own your domain name. Even if you decide to move your site elsewhere, we can transfer your domain name ownership to you.
I want to move my blog to another host. How do I do that?
Monthly blog subscriptions are not eligible for transfer to another host. Setup only blogs are hosted for 30 days free-of-charge. We can give you the credentials to move them yourself or you can contact us for assistance.
How Do People Subscribe to My Blog?
There are 2 ways to have people subscribe to your blog they both look the same to readers – but serve different purposes for you.
- Have people subscribe so that when you publish a new post / blog entry they will receive it in their inbox as an email. (WordPress)
- Have people subscribe so when you have announcements to make about a gathering, an event, or an offer you can email them. (Other)
What does it mean to have subscribers and why would I want that?
Subscribers mean that you have a list of people that want to hear from you, whether it’s new blog content, or emails about things you are doing, they are your people!
Why would you want that?
- If it’s a family blog, maybe it’s a way to keep everyone informed.
- If it’s an event like a conference or a wedding, you might want to reach people quickly and easily in case there are important changes they need to know about.
- If you are teaching classes and have a list of people who are interested in taking a class at a later date.
There are a LOT of reasons! Just be aware that if you have subscribers to your wordpress list, they will be emailed every time you publish a new post.
What do I do if I get hacked?
We have several layers of security, but that doesn’t mean that you are safe. Hackers are constantly working to get into places they don’t belong and we are constantly working to stay one step ahead! If you think you’ve been hacked, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and put HACKED in the subject line. We will get back to you asap!
What if I find a typo in my front page text or blog post?
Go into your blog writing area and find the word “Posts” on the left-hand side. Click on that, then click on the words “All Posts”. This will show a list of all of your posts, click on the one you want and underneath you will see the word “Edit”. Click on that and you will be able to make any changes that you want. It will autosave every 20 seconds, but it’s a nice feeling to hit that “save” button on the upper part of the right-side column in the editing screen.
I’m going to be travelling where there isn’t internet.
Can I save my posts and publish them all at once?
Yes, you can enter and publish them all at once but why not schedule them? For how, see the next question!
If you have subscribers and they suddenly receive several emails from you, some of them might find it to be too much. It’s really a better policy to space them and publish them weekly or monthly.
Can I schedule posts that haven’t been published to be published weekly?
When you write a blog, look at the right hand sidebar towards the top. You will see a gray bar that says “Document” and “Block” on it. Click “Document”. The first item says “Visibility” and the second says “Publish” and lists a date. You can change that date to any time in the future and the post will be published then!
I heard about people making money from blogging.
How can I do that too??
