Sleeping bag liner (about $50)
Everyplace we stayed was really nice, but if you are traveling in rural areas, it might not be. Having a clean sack to sleep in would definitely make a more restful night.
Pollution mask (about $15)
If you are going to be in New Delhi or Mumbai- get a pollution mask. We went during monsoon and didn’t have any problem at all because of the daily rain. If you have asthma this is a must any time of year.
Water filter straw (about $20)
This water filter is a must. I used mine (and the steripen) religiously and didn’t get sick at all. The nice thing about this one is that it comes w a sturdy plastic bag that easily fits in luggage.
Steripen Water Sterilizer (about $85)
You can ALSO get this water sterilizer pen.
Nobody wants to spend their holiday being sick. This was a bit over the top, but it was SO nice not to have to suck things out of a straw the whole time. We could do things like use hotel tap water to make a kettle of tea. Straw-type filters only work with cold liquids.
Travelers Tonic (about $20)
This stuff seriously saved one of us. You can take it daily OR when you feel something coming on (as we did after eating at a hole-in-the-wall) you can load up. I can definitively say that it’s what kept me functional and well when my companion was overtaken by “Delhi Belly”.
Travel Pack of TP (about $8)
Sometimes it’s not supplied. If you have to have it, plan for it. 🙂
